As part of the university'steaching-quality-enhancement program, Professor Li Yongning commenced his openclass in Strategic Management, with English language medium of instruction, this Tuesday morning. The lesson was given to the Innovation Class(1602). Dean Zhu Wenzhong and Associate Dean Ding Hao supervised proceedings.Faculty members Liu Xiaoqin, Qiu Aimei, Li Xiaohui and Chen Weizhenparticipated in the session, which was moderated by Dr Huang Lei, who is incharge of the English Instruction Program.
Li’s fluency of English deeply impressedthe whole audience. His session was so well-structured and clearlyplanned that communication and interaction between the instructor and studentsindeed went smoothly and effectively.
A heated discussion took place after thesession. It was commonly agreed that Professor Li provided an excellent sessionin Strategic Management, with English as the medium of instruction. Thecases used were concise and up-to-date, which proved attractive to the class. The process demonstrated a perfect integration of theory with practice.Professor Li’s experience indicated that a proactive and brilliant classcontext could be created, even it was conducted in a foreign language, ratherthan one's mother tongue. The young staff expressed their sincere willingnessto participate in the English instruction team and eagerness in learning morefrom the experienced teachers.
English Instruction imposes tough challenges for both the students andinstructors. However, it has been generally agreed that this can be the mosteffective approach for GDUFS and the Business School to achieve its target ofInternationalization. It has proven to be a big success since the program wasfirstly initiated in the Business School in 2014. Ever since then, cohorts of excellentstudents have been recruited into the program, and an outstanding team of about25 instructors has been established. We strongly believe that such a program isin accordance with the vision of Internationalization of Education for theBusiness School and GDUFS as a whole.
