Prof Gideon Maas isthe Director of the International Centre for Transformational Entrepreneurshipat Coventry University. Gideon has broad international business and academicexperiences in various countries such as China, Europe and Africa. Within the academicenvironment Gideon has created various entrepreneurship centres at differentuniversities over the past years, developed and implemented undergraduate andpost-graduate modules and programmes focusing specifically on enterprise andentrepreneurship.
Gideon’s researchfocus and experiences are in entrepreneurship, open innovation, growthstrategies, entrepreneurial universities, implementation of entrepreneurialsystems and family businesses. Most of his research activities are industryrelated but he has also published various books and articles in the publicdomain.
Leading up to hiscurrent employment, he was the Director of Futures Entrepreneurship Centre andProfessor in Entrepreneurship at Plymouth University in the UK; Director of theInstitute of Applied Entrepreneurship at Coventry University, UK; owner-managerof his own consulting company (South Africa); the first International Chair inEntrepreneurship in South Africa (South Africa and Ireland); Acting Dean andHOD at PE Technikon (South Africa); Head Centre for Entrepreneurship at theStellenbosch University Business School (South Africa); and Economist at theFirst National Development Corporation (Namibia). He was also the principalresearcher and author of the 2006 and 2007 Global Entrepreneurship Monitor(GEM) Reports for South Africa. He is currently a Visiting Professor atAnglia-Ruskin University and member of the Board of Trustees of the Instituteof Small Business and Entrepreneurship.
